The Drama community at Sydney Grammar School fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and pride, offering boys a dynamic and inclusive environment to explore their creativity. With opportunities ranging from casual involvement to intensive study, Drama caters to each boy’s individual interests and aspirations.

Drama is more than just performance – it builds confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking.
A diverse range of teaching methodologies ensures accessibility for all learners, while theatre literacy is developed through live performances, professional incursions, and external showcases. Form V pupils are also offered an optional year-long subscription to Belvoir St Theatre, enriching their appreciation of contemporary theatre.
In Form VI, pupils engage in advanced collaboration and group work, refining their skills in this academically rigorous subject. Ultimately, Drama at Sydney Grammar equips pupils with lifelong skills, fostering emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience – essential qualities for their future endeavors.
Academic Programme
The academic Drama curriculum is thoughtfully integrated across year levels. A Form II taster programme introduces students to Drama Pedagogy, enhancing the English curriculum through practical and kinaesthetic learning. As boys progress, elective courses in Forms III and IV deepen their theatrical knowledge, leading into rigorous Preliminary and HSC courses that have consistently achieved excellent results since their inception in 2020.
Co-curricular Opportunities
Beyond the classroom, the co-curricular Drama programme is thriving. Pupils can participate in Junior and Senior Productions, with a bi-annual Musical Performance as a highlight. Additional opportunities include the Shakespeare Carnival, Theatresports, Impro Club, and the Substratum Film Competition, all supported by a dedicated, pupil-led stage crew.
