Each day boys travel to Grammar from all over Sydney—as they have done since the 1850s.
Travelling to the city each day teaches boys independence and confidence and exposes them to life beyond their local suburb. It is an enjoyable experience for the boys and also provides a chance to catch up with their friends.
Being located in the centre of the city (opposite Hyde Park) the School is extremely well served by public transport.
Central, Town Hall and Museum railways stations are all within easy walking distance of the School and serve the needs of boys living to the north, south and west particularly. Government buses drop boys in William and Oxford Streets (from the eastern suburbs), Elizabeth Street (from Circular Quay) and George Street (from the inner west). The Queen Victoria Building and Wynyard Station are two other popular terminus stops for buses.
Quite a few of our boys travel by ferry to Circular Quay. Most boys then take a bus up to Hyde Park, or enjoy a walk up Macquarie Street.
Sports training afternoons
For boys training at Weigall Sports Ground, Sydney Cricket Ground, the Gladesville Boatshed, Parkland Tennis Centre, or other sites away from the School, buses depart from College Street after 3pm and return to the School after training has finished. Buses returning from Weigall also drop boys at Town Hall station. Boys may make their own way home from sports training, if they wish.
