Athletics Championships

The 149th Sydney Grammar School Athletics Championships was held at Weigall on Wednesday 28 February.

 

This terrific day of track and field events produced a number of outstanding performances from some highly talented athletes.

Derek Lin (I), the U13 Age Champion, won both the high jump and long jump, and finished second in the 100m and 200m. U14 Age Champion Hamilton van As (II) won the 400m, 800m and 1500m events. The Todman Trophy for U15 Age Champion was won by Luke Hopgood (III), who placed first in the 400m, 800m and 1500m.

The U16 Age Champion spoils were shared by Lachy Webster and Myles Kapoor (both IV). Lachy won the 800m and 1500m events, and placed second in the 400m. Myles won the 100m and the long jump, and placed third in the 400m and fourth in the high jump. Lachy and Myles received the WH Savigny Memorial Cup.

The Hyam Marks Trophy for the U17 Age Champion was won by Julian Wylie (V), who placed first in the U17 800m and 1500m, and third in the 400m. He also won the Open 3000m, for which he was awarded the Bisley Cup.

In the Open division, William Powell (VI) took first in the 100m, 200m and 400m, alongside a third-place finish in the 800m and fourth place in the high jump. William was awarded the WH Savigny Memorial Trophy as Age Champion, and he was also awarded the Amer Cup for winning the Open 400m Championship.

Other trophy winners on the day are Gabriel Lambros (I), who won the James McKillop Cup, which is presented to the U13 100m Champion; and James Ritchie (VI), who won the Robert Bullow Cup, presented to the Open 800m Champion.

Congratulations to JDS House, who were presented with the WT Macpherson Shield for winning the 2024 Athletics Carnival House championship.
