THE SCOOP

Director of Community Ms Sharon Ditmarsch shares the latest on Grammar goings-on, highlighting the wonderful involvement of parents and alumni within the School community.

Parent Associations

Barbecues, dinners of appreciation, canteen volunteers, parent evenings, fancy-dress front of house, book clubs, book sales, breakfasts, spectators and a million other things. We very much appreciate the support of the parent associations in organising these activities.

The OSU

The Old Sydneians’ Union works in collaboration with the School on some major events throughout the year. Working (and arguing) with Nick Manettas, OSU President, has been a pleasure and a privilege. The OSU and the School assisted the Rugby Club in hosting the Celebration of 150 Years of Rugby. A few weeks later we ran the Great Debate. At Back to Weigall Day, Nick and his team (including renowned rugby mother, Kathy Manettas) were in full swing. Events such as these provide opportunities to blend the past with the present.

Open Days

An opportunity for prospective families to get a taste of a normal School day!

Weigall home games

On 3 August the inaugural SGS football team (1974) celebrated 50 years of Grammar Football at Weigall. On 10 August, the Preparatory School rugby teams were spurred on by the School as they ran down the tunnel. We've had some great days at the home of Grammar Sport.

End-of-Season Dinners

Parents provide invaluable help to make sure that the end-of-season dinners in sport, music and debating run seamlessly.

Spectators and Supporters

Parents, masters and friends make up a lively part of our Ithaka lecture audience. They attend showcases, the Careers Convention, present lunchtime lectures and get excited about Literary Week. Many parents choose to join us long after their boys have left the School.

The concerts, Burger Day, Chalk and Gelato Day, barbecues, bands, showcases, Sixth Form Final School Assembly, Leavers’ Assembly and Dinner will provide fond memories for the boys of their final weeks at College Street. We wish them well in the HSC examinations.
